Diabetic Awareness Essay Contest
Each year the Lions Organ and Eye Bank conducts the Diabetic Awareness Essay Contest.
The 2018 theme is: “Diabetes in Sports”
Applicants: High School Juniors and Seniors
Contest Winner Announced:
January 19, 2019 at the District 2E2 Cabinet Meeting held at the Midwinter conference.
Enter with Essay and Applications by: November 29th, 2018
For this essay, Contestants are asked to choose two sports to write about and describe how athletes with diabetes can manage their diabetes while participating in the two sports selected for this Contest, specifically what diet and exercise regimen to follow.
The essay should reflect what could be learned from athletes with diabetes and advice they have for young athletes to care for themselves.
- Prizes: $2000, $1500, $1000 Scholarship Prizes
- Essay Length: Up To 1500 Words
- Judging Criteria: Content (60%), English (15%), Recitation (25%)
Entrants Must Be Sponsored by their Local Lions Club
The state contest rules and applications can be found at www.texaslions.org.
The District 2-E2 Essay Winner and Sponsoring Club will also enter the state contest for any additional scholarship.
